The laying of pipe by the Public Health Engineering Department along the stretch from Mawlai Lad Nongpdeng up to Mawlai Standbus has created great inconveniences to passersby.
The construction, which has been going on without clearing the resulting debris, especially during this monsoon season, has not only caused extreme traffic snarls in the area but injured many, especially two-wheeler riders.
School children are also facing the brunt of this reckless construction and, to add to the problem, some of the water pipes have been piled up on footpaths and pedestrians have to manoeuvre through the muddy, debris-filled road.
Speaking to Highland Post today, Mawlai MLA Process Sawkmie blamed the contractor for the reckless construction.
Informing that he has taken up the matter with the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department, who has immediately responded to the problem, he said that now both the PWD and PHE departments should ensure that the debris is not left unattended on the road.
The MLA also informed that a sanction of more than Rs 4 crore has been allotted to blacktop the road from Mawlai petrol pump to FCI-Mawroh.
He also assured that road repairs in Mawlai will begin once the monsoon abates.
