The NPP today blamed former Shillong MP Vincent Pala for failing to convince the Centre to implement ILP in the State despite being elected to parliament for three consecutive terms.
Speaking to media persons here, cabinet minister Rakkam A. Sangma said that the responsibility is now on VPP’s MP Ricky A J Syngkon to convince the Central government to accept the demand for ILP.
“We are crying for ILP and Vincent Pala failed to convince the Centre. Now it is in the hands of Syngkon to convince the parliament to adopt it,” Sangma said.
He said that people want to see Syngkon fulfill the aspirations of the people.
Stating that apart from ILP there are other pending issues of the State, like the inclusion of the Khasi and Garo language in the Eighth Schedule, Sangma said, “It is up to Syngkon. He has to work hard to convince the Government of India and if he could not meet the expectation the same people will say a different story tomorrow.”
Stating that the people have voted for VPP with a lot of emotion, he said, “Let us see to what distance this emotion can be carried along. How long will it last and how will Syngkon perform as an MP.”
“People read the progress report of every party and every leader. We can fool people once but cannot repeat twice. People will definitely compare the performance of an MP or MLA,” he added.
“They (VPP) are no longer a demanding party but a responsible party with an MP in parliament and they have to deliver now,” the minister said.
