The State BJP felicitated Padma Shri awardee, Silbi Passah and cabinet minister Alexander Laloo Hek for being conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke award.
The duo was feted by State BJP President, Rikman Momin at a function held at the party office, here today.
Speaking at the felicitation programme, Passah said that she has come a long way in her journey first starting her career as a Hindi teacher. “I have this keen interest to preserve and promote traditional songs, dances as well as music instruments,” she said..
She was also grateful to the Art and Culture department for recognising her efforts to promote the Khasi culture.
“I was given opportunities to showcase our traditional songs not only within the state but also to the different parts of the country,” she said.
Passah also pointed out the importance of respecting one’s language and culture. She said, “Respect your language, your culture, and the world will respect you.”
The noted traditional musician Passah was selected to receive the Padma Shri award for 2024.
A resident of Riatsamthiah, Shillong was chosen for her distinguished service in the field of Art.
On February 24 last year, Passah received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2021 from President Droupadi Murmu.
