An orientation programme on Tuberculosis for students of the Department of Social Work, St. Edmund’s College and Women’s College was held at the District TB Hall in Mawprem, here today.
The programme was conducted by the East Khasi Hills District Tuberculosis Office under theme, ‘Let’s support to eliminate TB’.
State TB Officer, Dr. M. Mawrie spoke about Latent TB and how bad habits such as alcohol, smoking can affect one’s health.
District TB Officer, Dr. J. Kharwanlang informed about the type of tuberculosis, its signs and symptoms. She also explained about pulmonary and extra-pulmonary, the overall objectives of the NTEP programme and stressed on the importance of BCG vaccination in a child’s life as one of the main preventive measures.
She explained about the clinical diagnosis, transmission and social problem aspect caused by the disease.
The session ended with a TB pledge for support and no discrimination to any TB patient and to eliminate the disease.
A total number of 90 student participated in the programme.
