The State Council of Science, Technology and Environment (SCSTE) as part of the National Mathematics Day Celebration organised a one day National Mathematics day cum Orientation programme for resource persons (Math Ambassadors) of the Crash Tuitions programme for SSLC candidates 2023 at Shillong College Auditorium yesterday.
The programme was attended by 80 Maths Ambassadors of the State who will be aiding the council in disseminating the crash tuitions to the SSLC candidates at 130 crash tuitions centres across the State. These include 80 centres in Khasi Jaiñtia region and 50 centres in Garo Hills region.
The programme consisted of two sessions where lectures were delivered by research scholars of the North Eastern Hills University in the first session followed by the orientation of the Math Ambassadors in the afternoon session by Spainborlang Kharshandi, Associate Professor of Mathematics, Shillong College.
The programme will be followed by a series of one-day workshop on Mathematics for Lower Primary and Upper Primary teachers using maths kits and origami in all the 12 districts in January, 2023.
National Mathematics Day is observed to mark the birth anniversary of Indian mathematical genius, Srinivasa Ramanujan not only as a mark of respect but to inspire many young minds in the country to pursue mathematics as a career and show its use to the society.
