The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Field Operations Division (FOD), Regional office Shillong organised an awareness programme on public hygiene and sanitation today as part of Swachhta Pakhwada 2023 campaign.
The program which was held at AW Thomas Girls’ Home, Jaiaw Lumsyntiew aims to increase awareness of menstrual health management.
NSSO (FOD) Joint Director N. Mohondas Singh who spoke at the programme emphasised on the importance of public hygiene and maintaining sanitation for healthy body. He stressed that healthy body will lead to healthy mind and it gives the strength to concentrate for achieving one life goals.
District Health Education officer O. Sumer and NSSO Assistant Director M. Nongrum explained the children about the importance of maintaining hygiene and how girls can manage menstrual health. They urged children to take a balanced diet food for a healthy life and to maintain cleanliness in and around their surroundings.
The programme was attended by officers and staff of the NSSO and officials of the home including the children.
A sanitizer dispenser filled liquid sanitizer was also donated by the office to the home along with some of the hygiene products like hand washes etc. As a gesture of social responsibility and love, all the staff including contractual staff of different levels of the office also contributed some amounts and donated required food items.
Meanwhile, the NSSO also organised a cleaning drive and plantation of tree saplings at Malki forest area here as part of the celebration.
