The National Statistics Office (NSO) has organised a three-day Regional Training Camp (RTC) from June 18 to 20 on Domestic Tourism Expenditure Survey (DTES), National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) and Pilot Study on Construction Activities.
The conference was attended by the officers and staff of the NSO from Shillong and Tura and also staff from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics. Training was imparted to the staff on the above subjects for which the survey on DTES and NHTS will commence from July 2025 up to June 2026 and Pilot Study on Construction Activities from July 2025 to December 2025.
The NSS 80th Round on DTES is designed to collect detailed information on expenditure on domestic tourism along with some information on household characteristics, visitor characteristics and trip characteristics in relation to domestic overnight trips, required for preparation of the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA).
It will also conduct a survey on NHTS, which is aimed at collecting information on where, when and why people travel, which is critical for making informed decisions on infrastructure projects and public transportation systems. The survey will provide critical data for understanding and improving the transportation systems that will aid in policy development and infrastructure planning based on the requirements of the Union Ministry of Railways.
The NSO will also conduct a Pilot Study on Construction Activities in Unincorporated Sector Establishments and Households from July to December 2025.
This study aims at providing inputs to the National Accounts Division for estimation of Gross Value Output (GVO)/Gross Value Added (GVA) of the construction activity undertaken by unincorporated establishments and own account construction undertaken by households for own use.
The data collected through this survey will be used by the central and state governments for development, planning and policy decisions. The success of the survey depends to a great extent on the quality of the response from the public.
