The East Khasi Hills district unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has termed the recent statement of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary Rituraj Sinha as “mere propaganda to fool the electorate while keeping quiet on the CBI inquiry on the fatal Mukroh shooting.”
The Mukroh Massacre, carried out by police personnel from BJP-led Assam, resulted in the loss of five lives of Meghalayans in November last year.
The TMC’s East Khasi Hills district coordinator, Dominic S Wankhar, slammed the BJP leader for mixing up issues of larger interest while ignoring some basic questions.
“Why was no action taken by the BJP to curb fringe fundamentalist elements aligned with its party who speak of violence and intimidation against minorities and especially attacks in places of worship? What has happened to that directive of the Assam government to initiate a survey of Christians in that state, or is it a tool to be used at a later stage?” he questioned.
On Meghalaya issues, Wankhar said that the BJP has not dared to ask for a report on the Smart Meter scandal, alleged irregularities in the Smart City project, PDS rice scam or the huge expenditure during Covid-19.
“The people of Meghalaya cannot forget the lies and propaganda spread by the BJP and NPP (National People’s Party),” he added. “We should not forget the last five years have been marred by controversies and fooling people with imaginary dreams. Anything that is done has to be concrete and impactful but what we have seen is more of foundation stones and promises made to turn Meghalaya into a Dreamland.”
