Nongthymmai Sports and Cultural Club resumed its platinum jubilee celebrations yesterday with the start of a football tournament at Nongthymmai playground.
The celebrations have been organised after two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The first match was played between the women of Umpling and Nongkhyriem, which the former won 4-0. Two goals were scored by Daphishisha Marthong and one each by Quinie Nongrum and Daisy Sohtun.
The second match was in the men’s category and here Nongkhyriem C defeated Nongkhyriem A 2-1. The winners scored through Rodrick Kharmujai and Banshan Ramsiej, while Nongkhyriem A scored via Ban Syiemlieh.
The dignitaries present were Banida Shisha Kharkongor, RV Dkhar, E Rynjah and club president B Khyriem, among others.
Earlier in the morning, the club in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Shillong, organised a cleaning drive at the playground, indoor stadium and nearby areas by picking up stones and wastes as part of Clean India 2.0. During this cleaning drive, there was enthusiastic participation from the boys of Nongthymmai Football Coaching Centre, players of the badminton fraternity, students from karate, members of the gym and carrom board players as well as members of the club.
