Marbiang Nongsiej, whose ticket to contest the district council election from Nongstoiñ was revoked by the Voice of the People Party (VPP), has said he was caught by surprise by the decision taken by the election committee of the party.
Nongsiej was granted a ticket to contest the election by the VPP. However, he was replaced by Juristman Iawphniaw on January 7.
The VPP state election committee had stated that the decision was taken in the interest of the party and the people.
In a statement today, Nongsiej said his candidature was approved on November 11, 2024 at the party office in Laitkor. He said party president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit had also agreed to his suggestion to introduce himself as the party candidate to the electorates of Nongstoiñ.
He said he also attended the orientation program at the party office.
Nongsiej said there was no official communication or a call made by the election committee about the decision and he was made known of the decision only through the media.
“When the party has to revoke my candidature, why allot a ticket in the first place?” he questioned and added that the action of the VPP was against human rights and done with a dead conscience.
