Amid public fuzz over the name of the newly created district, the State government has today appointed IAS officer Wilfred Nongsiej as the deputy commissioner of Eastern West Khasi Hills district.
Nongsiej is presently the Secretary of District Council Affairs Department, Prisons Department and Meghalaya Human Rights Commission.
Further, the notification issued today also appointed MCS officer Alertson Nongbri as the additional deputy commissioner of Eastern West Khasi Hills district.
Nongbri is presently the additional deputy commissioner in charge of Mairang Civil Sub-Division.
Another MCS officer Valentine Swer who is presently the Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Mairang Civil Sub-Division has been appointed as EAC of Eastern West Khasi Hills district.
It may be noted that the State cabinet had on November 5 approved a proposal to upgrade the Mairang civil sub-division to a full-fledged district to be known as East West Khasi Hills. The new district will be inaugurated on November 10.
With this, the number of districts in the State will go up to twelve.
