Entry of buses has been banned on the route from Police Bazaar to Motphran from December 23.
East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner in an order passed today said this was done as per the recommendation by the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and Shillong Traffic Police to address the “chronic” traffic situation in parts of the city.
The order said all public transport buses including the STPS buses and private buses are to stop plying towards Police Bazaar and Motphran areas.
The Superintendent of Police (Traffic) will convene a meeting with all concerned operators and associations and MUDA to clarify on the alternative routes that buses should use, the order said.
