Ledaroi Laloo, a student of NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology), Shillong was one among students from other parts of the country to receive the coveted ‘Best Garment Construction’ Award 2024.
The award was presented by the Usha International, India’s leading sewing machine company that has partnered with NIFT to reward the creativity of budding fashion designers graduating from multiple branches of the institute at Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Panchkula, Patna, Raebareli, and Shillong.
Laloo received an Usha Janome Allure DLX automatic sewing machine, a certificate, and a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
The innovative state-of-the-art sewing machine has automatic needle threading, with an LED sewing light, a feed drop lever for embroidery, 13 built-in stitch functions, and 21 applications including buttonhole stitch, rolled hemming, stretch stitching, embroidery, zip fixing, quilting, smocking, etc. A sturdy base provides three times stronger stitches vis-à-vis other machines.
Jesmina Zeliang, Founder – Heirloom Naga & Cane Concept Tanu Kashyap, Director General, Prof. Dr. Sudha Dhingra, Dean (academics) NIFT, and Shankar Kumar Jha, Director NIFT Shillong, faculty and students were present on the occasion.
