The Pasyih-Garampani road sanctioned at Rs 62.5 crore under the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP), which is funded by the World Bank, has worn out.
The foundation stone for the upgrades to the road was laid by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on January 29, 2021 in the presence of several other ministers and MLAs.
Connecting Meghalaya to Assam, the 47 kilometre Pasyih-Garampani Road is a state highway that begins at 8th Mile of the Jowai-Ratacherra Road (NH-6) and ends at Saphai, near the Assam border. The road passes through several villages, like Pyntei, Biar, Chatwakhu, Nongkroh, Lakadong, Theym and Saphai.
The work was allotted to Rocky Dhar JV Dhar Construction Company on November 5, 2020 to be completed in 42 months.
It may be mentioned that the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) Saphai area in Jaiñtia Hills had also lodged a complaint at Raliang Outpost against Dhar Company for poor execution of the road in May this year.
