An office building for the Water Resources Department at Mawkyrwat was inaugurated by minister in charge, Comingone Ymbon, today.
The building was constructed at a cost of Rs 1.73 crore.
Ymbon encouraged the officers and staff of the department, as well as other government officials, to remain humble and approachable in their service to the public.
The new office is meant to improve service delivery to the residents of South West Khasi Hills. He also expressed appreciation to the local MLAs, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar and Pius Marweiñ, for their efforts in advancing developmental initiatives in the district in coordination with the Chief Minister.
In his remarks, Ymbon reflected on the environmental changes over the years, recalling how in the past, water in the hills and streams was abundant. However, today, even during the rainy season, many streams are beginning to dry up. He warned, “If we do not act now, the day may come when even the air we breathe will have to be bottled.” Therefore, he urged everyone to take responsibility for protecting the environment, especially the forests, so that future generations can enjoy clean water, fresh air, and a healthy ecosystem.
