Jowai, Oct 15: The newly constructed building of Jarain Government Lower Primary School, established in 1910, was inaugurated today by Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui.
The building was constructed under the Special Rural Works Programme (SRWP) 2023–24.
In his address, Rymbui recalled the long legacy of the school and reaffirmed his dedication to uplifting rural education and announced Rs 8 to Rs 14 lakh assistance for constructing a kitchen and dining area under the PM-POSHAN (Mid-Day Meal) scheme, encouraging the village authorities to work on plans.
Emphasizing community responsibility, he urged the Village Defence Party (VDP) and parents to remain vigilant in safeguarding children. He also encouraged students to study diligently, pursue self-reliance, and not depend solely on government jobs.
He commended the school’s kitchen garden, which recently produced 20 kilograms of French beans, suggesting that students sell their produce as a learning exercise in entrepreneurship.
During his speech, the minister announced funds for the development of the area. He highlighted that Rs 20 lakh was sanctioned under the Border Areas Development Programme (BADP) for major infrastructure work, followed by Rs 9 lakh from the MLA Scheme to strengthen facilities.
He informed that a Rs 10 lakh work order was sanctioned for Seng Pynryumlang Ki Hyntha School to replace temporary arrangements with permanent facilities.
He announced that Rs 2 crore is expected to be released for road improvements in Jarain and nearby villages under BADP. These initiatives, he noted, complement the Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAAGY) and PM Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PM-JUGA)—central government schemes providing Rs 20.39 lakh per selected tribal village for essential infrastructure like schools, health centres, water supply, and connectivity.
Rymbui said work is ongoing to complete the hospital project in the area and that he plans to invite the Chief Minister to Jarain during the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Amlarem Sub-Division on November 12 and to inaugurate and review developmental projects.
The event was attended by Jamshaphrang Pohtam (MDC, War Central), Deibor Patrecia Lytan (I/C SDSEO, Amlarem Sub-Division), community leaders, teachers, students, and residents of Jarain.
