Shillong, Dec 10: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), an umbrella body of major students’ associations in the region, will observe December 11 as a “black day” at several places across the Northeast states to mark its continued opposition against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.
Six years ago the Indian government passed the Act through the Rajya Sabha, a move NESO describes as “draconian” and a political injustice to the indigenous peoples of the Northeast.
In a statement issued today, NESO chairperson Samuel Jyrwa said the organisation plans to display black flags and banners across key locations in all seven states to convey the region’s continued opposition to the CAA and remind communities of the struggle for their rights.
NESO comprises eight member unions, including KSU, AASU, NSF, MZP, TSF, AMSU, GSU, and AAPSU.
