The Meghalaya government has announced an extension of celebrations to mark the fourth anniversary of the National Education Policy 2020 so that the last day does not fall on a Sunday.
The week-long event was meant to run from July 22 to 28. That last day is a Sunday and, therefore, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma informed that the state government has moved the last day to July 29.
The government has instructed all school principals to participate in the Education Week celebrations.
Having the culmination of the observation on a Sunday had riled a few groups, like the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO). It had also pointed out that the NEP has not been implemented in schools in Meghalaya but only at the college and university level, thereby making it necessary for schools to observe the day “unwarranted”.
