The Department of Community Medicine at NEIGRIHMS is conducting a six-day capacity building programme on the ‘Management of Public Health Emergencies for District Health Officers’ under a central sector scheme funded by the Disaster Management Cell of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The programme began today and will conclude on September 14. Present at the launch were Community Medicine Head Prof Dr Star Pala, NEIGRIHMS Medical Superintendent Prof C Daniala, NEIGRIHMS Director Prof Dr Nalin Mehta and esteemed guests Prof Dr Noor Topno and Prof Dr Bhaskar Borgohain, Heads of General Surgery and Orthopaedics respectively at NEIGRIHMS.
Dr Mehta stressed on the importance of preparedness for future pandemic after learning our lesson from Covid-19. He further added that we have to make decisions for early appropriate intervention that are scientific and convey the same to the public for prevention and control.
The programme aims to enhance the preparedness and response capabilities of District Health Officers (DHOs) in effectively managing public health emergencies, which may range from disease outbreaks to natural disasters.
With the growing challenges of health crises, this training will empower DHOs with critical skills to mitigate risks, ensure swift response and safeguard public health, a press release said today. Led by a team of seasoned experts, the programme features approximately 40 interactive sessions, aiming to strengthen the public health system’s capacity to manage emergencies, safeguard communities and minimise the impact on health services.
