The North-Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) has condemned what it describes as the Vice-Chancellor’s continued interference in the functioning of the university despite being on leave.
PS Shukla was the focus of intense protests last year led by students into the way the university was being run and led to a committee being constituted by the Union Ministry of Education.
Shukla has been on leave since November and is not in Meghalaya but has still represented the varsity at programmes outside the state.
NEHUTA, in a press release today, said that he is also “interfering in the smooth functioning of the university by way of abusing his powers so that several official functions are interrupted and impeded.”
Representing NEHU while on leave “is a case of gross impropriety and violation of the university Act and Statutes. On leave, he is not entitled to represent the university as per the laws of the university. Therefore, Prof PS Shukla is attempting to overstep the Act and Statutes and violate norms of functioning,” NEHUTA added.
This behaviour of the VC, is, according to the teachers’ association, part of an attempt to “sabotage NEHU from outside” in order to harm the university.
