Shillong, Sep 3: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has sanctioned gap funding of Rs. 51.178 lakh as residential costs for youths of the North East to pursue skill training in the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) and IT-ITES sectors.
The AVGC sector is experiencing rapid growth globally and in India, with the Indian industry projected to expand from Rs 188 billion in 2023 to Rs 419 billion by 2027.
The initiative aims to enhance employability, drive economic growth, address skill gaps, foster entrepreneurship, and ensure sustainable livelihoods by equipping the youth of the North East with industry-relevant skills such as animation, VFX, game design, and graphic storytelling.
The project plans to train and certify approximately 400 youth from the North-East, with specific distribution across states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
The project to be implemented by the North Eastern Region Community Resources Management Society (NERCORMS), Shillong, is partly supported by MSDE under PMKVY 4.0 guidelines, with NEC providing crucial gap funding for boarding and lodging.
