Shillong, Sep 16 : The President of the women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) visited Shillong today to inaugurate the party’s Service Week programme which will be organised to coincide with the 70th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17.
BJP state President Ernest Mawrie welcomed Vijaya Rahatkar at the inauguration ceremony at the party’s office. As part of the function the BJP distributed blankets to the NGO, Spark, and Rahatkar later visited the Holy Child Mercy Home in Demthring to provide blankets, sanitisers, masks and fruits to old age residents.
Mawrie announced that the party will hold a week-long series of events in all districts of Meghalaya, ranging from cleanliness drives, distribution of wheelchairs, to tree plantation drives. The BJP will participate in the cleaning of the Umsohlang River and seed it with fish while also distributing rations, fruit, vegetables, masks and sanitisers among needy people, the party said in a press release today.
