Shillong YMCA hosted the national leadership and training camp in the city recently.
Organised by the National Council of YMCAs of India through its Department of Youth Empowerment about 80 youth, 32 delegates from different YMCAs from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bombay YMCA, Patna, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Jowai, Shangpung and Nongtalang attended the three-day camp.
President of the National Council, Rtd. Chief Justice of Bihar, J.B.Koshy attended as the chief guest. He was accompanied by the Youth Vice President, Gaurav Kalyan, the National General Secretary Bertram Devadas, Secretary Youth Empowerment Koshy Alexander Vaidyan and the Secretary of YMCA Northern Region Bhen Samson.
Vice Chairman of YMCA North East Region Dr. Andrew Ahoto, Regional Secretary of YMCA North East Region Shamir Thabah and Director of the National Council from the North East Joe Rz Thanga are the other notable YMCA dignitaries.
President of YMCA Shillong, Most Rev. Dr.P.Lyngdoh, welcomed the delegates and called for national integration of youths from far and wide and to understand North east India- its people, land and culture from within.
President of the NCYI reminded youth of their great responsibilities of being leaders in their respective fields of specialisation. He reminded them of their integrity, dedication and hard work for a better India.
The National General Secretary, the Secretary Youth Empowerment also spoke on the occasion.
The resource persons, Dr.Andrew Ahoto took up sessions on creative leadership, J.R.Myrboh, Secretary Shillong YMCA on leadership from the Christian perspective and Koshy Alexander spoke on YMCA leaders who have greatly contributed to society in sporting events such as the Basket Ball, volleyball and others.
Besides lecture sessions, leadership games, management games are also part of the training programme. Traditional songs and dances of Meghalaya performed by our Local dance troupe enthralled the delegates.
Jowai YMCA, Shangpung YMCA, Nongtalang and Mizoram YMCAs also presented their classic dances.
The delegates visited Sohra, hiked up the slopes of Lumparing to Shillong View Point and were introduced to local cuisines.
