The District Medical and Health Officer of East Khasi Hills has informed that National Deworming Day (NDD) will be observed on April 17 with an aim to intensify efforts to eradicate soil transmitted helminths (STHs).
The national deworming programme has a target to deworm all children between the ages of 1 and 19 in order to improve their overall well-being, nutritional status, access to education and quality of life.
All children in this age group will be administered with albendazole tablets at schools and anganwadi centres under this programme.
The NDD will be followed by a mop-up-day (MOD) on April 21 with the intent of deworming children who missed the original dose. All schools and anganwadi centres will be implementation sites of NDD across the district.
