A two-day national conclave on the theme, ‘Transforming Teacher Education towards Viksit Bharat 2047’ was inaugurated today by Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar.
Organised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in collaboration with North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) the conclave is held at the university’s multi convention hall.
The conclave, covering the Eastern and Northeastern states, is part of a series of four national-level discussions aimed at strengthening teacher education networks, sharing knowledge, and fostering a deeper understanding of region-specific educational challenges.
NCTE Chairperson Professor Pankaj Arora highlighted the role of the council in revamping teacher education. He pointed out that the national conclave is the first of its kind in the eastern region and emphasised on the commitment to transform teacher education through Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP).
In his inaugural address, the Governor emphasised the pivotal role of teachers in nation-building and the need for continuous innovation in teacher education. He lauded the efforts of NCTE in introducing transformative initiatives such as the ITEP, National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST), and the National Mission for Mentoring (NMM), which seek to enhance the quality of both pre-service and in-service teacher training across India.
The Governor stressed on the fact that a child’s brain is most receptive from the age of 4 to 14 years and called on teachers to try their best to instill knowledge for their social, mental, physical and overall development in that phase.
NEHU VC in charge Prof. N. Saha envisioned India as a self-reliant nation where education will play a very important role through teacher education. He also focused on the use of technology and significance of the Indian knowledge system to embark into a developed India.
The event was attended by senior officials from the central and state governments, thought leaders, experts from teacher education institutions, school principals, and faculty members from various universities and colleges.
