The Meghalaya chapter of the National Youth Awardees Federation of India (NYAFI) has expressed happiness with the steps taken by the state government that led to the approval of the Meghalaya Youth Policy 2021.
In a release it expressed thankfulness towards the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh, in “realize the long-held aspirations of the youth of the state.”
However, the body did say that it was only in 2020 that its members were solicited for their suggestions on the policy. All recommendations that NYAFI had submitted to the government since 2009 proved futile and only ended with “false assurances” from the authorities.
“It was only after 2020, when the national awardees were felicitated by the National People’s Youth Front (which is the youth organisation of the ruling National People’s Party), that we got the opportunity to discuss the matter in-depth and face-to-face with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma,” NYAFI said.
