Narwan one the villages that has an abundance of oranges is set to host the first festival dedicated to the fruit at Mooknow Narwan in East Jaintia Hills district.
The two-day festival is scheduled on January 30 and 31 organised by the Narwan Multipurpose Co-Operative Society Ltd.
The fruits harvested from Narwan are among those exported to Dubai in December last year.
Waheh shnong of Narwan, Lamsuk Langstang said that the festival will showcase the richness and taste of the oranges grown in the village.
At the festival, the organisers said people can enjoy and take part in marathon, cycle race, trekking and screening of a Khasi film ‘Nuksa’ as well as a fashion show and music by local performers.
Director of ‘Narwan Orange Queen’ Sookini Sutnga informed that the ‘Miss Narwan’ will also be held during the festival. She said the offline audition was conducted on January 13 and the online audition is scheduled on January 18. Through the auditions, selected participants will vie for the title on the final day of the orange festival, she added.
