Minister of Health and Family Welfare, AL Hek, today said that Meghalaya will be celebrating its 50th year of statehood but there are many schemes and projects in his department that need to be completed in order for the state to be able to truly celebrate its statehood.
“We need to complete them to celebrate statehood,” Hek, while speaking at a function to distribute free hearing aids to 100 beneficiaries, said.
The number one priority is the cancer wing at Shillong Civil Hospital, which is yet to be completed.
“We want to make it happen – complete all the projects in a year’s time,” he added, pointing to the state of the art diagnostic centre in Shillong and 100-bed hospital in Mawkyrwat.
The Health and Family Welfare Department, in collaboration with the Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Hearing and Speech Disabilities, distributed free hearing aids to 100 beneficiaries on the occasion of the 49th statehood day.
