Police informed that a mother and son were assaulted by a group of thugs following a dispute over payment for a soft drink.
It was around 12 noon that a man asked for a soft drink (Amul Kool) from a shop in Mahadevkhola, telling the female shopkeeper that he would pay later. On being refused, he threw a coconut at her and a scuffle took place.
He returned half an hour later with four others and attacked the woman and her son, stole money from the shop and fled. A police party from Jhalupara outpost rushed to the spot after being informed of the incident, followed by senior police officials.
The mother and son sustained simple, minor injuries and were released after a medical examination and having received first aid.
A case was registered at Lumdiengjri police station and the district police is making all efforts to nab the culprits.
