Leader of the opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma, today went ballistic over the allegations of Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, over his statement accusing the former CM of approaching him in an effort to form a government with the National People’s Party.
While speaking to the media after campaigning in Bhaitbari today, Dr Sangma said, “Which Mukul Sangma is he talking about? I have not met him and have no desire to meet him. I don’t know which Mukul Sangma he is talking about,” said the former CM.
He added that the state has been subjected to so much stress and strain through all socio-economic perspectives.
“There are so many alleged irregularities. There is a government but no governance. It is also showing the lack of responsibility of the people at the helm of governance,” said the senior Congress leader.
He stated that everyone in the state wanted to get rid of the current dispensation from governance.
“Ask anyone in Khasi-Jaintia Hills or in Garo Hills, everyone wants this government to go.
“A majority of the people of the state wants this government to go. They have realized the grim scenario and are now trying to create confusion amongst people of the state,” he added.
The Congress leader mentioned that while no political party was ever untouchable, when it came to the NPP they had to come clean on the alleged irregularities and corruption.
“They must first go through the ‘Agni pariksha’ (cleansing by fire) to demonstrate that they are free from that alleged corruption. Until then, they are untouchables to us,” said the CLP state leader.
