A fresh bout of landslide occurred near the Sonapur tunnel in East Jaintia Hills today morning leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded for several hours.
Incessant rains and landslides have turned the the National Highway-6 into a river of mud and rocks.
Some stranded travellers risked their lives wading through the mud.
Movement of traffic was opened on the National Highway-6 at around 3 pm after the debris which included mud and boulders was cleared with the help of excavators.
Meanwhile, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Amlarem Civil Sub-Division has prohibited movement of heavy vehicles including trucks along the road from Amlarem to Muktapur.
Heavy vehicles have been directed to take the Muktapur-Dawki road.
The order was issued after the Amlarem-Muktapur road was washed away by flash flood and also damaged due to landslides.
A portion of the road at Kyrdeng Khli was severely damaged.
