The Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF) today convened a special condolence meeting in memory of their founding Chairman, RG Lyngdoh who passed away yesterday.
While highlighting his numerous achievements the MTDF said he was respected for his valued sense of integrity, selfishness, humility, democracy among members, his love for the masses and his vision on the development of tourism in the State while drafting the Constitution of the forum.
The forum said that Lyngdoh conceptualised its formation by not only involving direct stakeholders of the tourism industry but also from different professional backgrounds. “Such is the vision of Bah RG Lyngdoh who believes that all can play a leading role in contributing to the promotion of tourism which bears testimony to the growth of tourism as seen today,” the forum said.
The success of the MTDF Autumn Festivals and the commitment to expose Meghalaya and the North East through the Guinness World Records for the Largest Drum Ensemble was under his able leadership, the forum said, adding, he was a man of action, passionate about his priorities and his tenacity, which was reflected in his innate strength and commitment he had for improving the lives of the masses as seen in the promotion of rural tourism in Mawlynnong way back in 2004.
Meanwhile, condolences continue to pour in for the former home minister.
The Meghalaya Retired College Teachers’ Association said Lyngdoh was a visionary and courageous leader known for his values and ethics throughout his public life.
A well-informed person in diverse fields, he was elevated to the highest seat of learning when he was the Vice-Chancellor of Martin Luther Christian University, the association said.
“At a time when society is starved of visionary, honest and courageous leadership, his passing is an immense and irreparable loss,” the association added.
The Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions and Associations (MJCTU&A) too expressed its shock and anguish at the sad demise of Lyngdoh. The union said as a business management professional, a musician and an accomplished academician, he never failed to be associated with workers and employees’ welfare.
“A leader who never gave any indulgence to division of people in the name of religion, caste, creed or any other sort of origin, he remained in the core of heart of all people of the State and even outside. In his death, the society has lost a very honest and matured politician and above all an ideologically strong human being,” the union said.
