Shillong, Jul 5: The Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association (MSKA) celebrated National Kickboxing Day with Team Revolution MMA Gym in Shillong on Thursday.
National Kickboxing Day is observed to commemorate when WAKO India Kickboxing Federation received official recognition as a national sports federation by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports on July 2, 2021.
MSKA working president Lorenzo Pearson Warjri said on the occasion that kickboxing is a rapidly growing global combat sport, officially recognised as an Olympic sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), with 130 affiliated nations, different rule sets and a booming professional scene and widespread youth participation.
In Meghalaya, under the MSKA, young kickboxers have been taking part in different tournaments, nationally and internationally, since 2017.
Since that time, MSKA athletes have won 104 gold, 102 silver and 114 bronze medals, 67 of them internationally and nine for NEHU in the All India Inter University Games.
At the event, Daniella I Wanda Mylliemngap of Team Revolution was honoured for getting a bronze in the Asian Kickboxing Championship 2024, which was held in Cambodia in October 2024. Daniella has also represented India at the WAKO World Kickboxing Championship held in the UAE in November 2025.
Also present on the occasion were Shaiborlang L Mawphlang, the president of the Meghalaya Paralympics Association and an international kickboxer and referee. He expressed his appreciation for Sambormi Lyngdoh, a martial artist who set up Team Revolution MMA Gym.
The MSKA is currently preparing 50 kickboxers from Ri-Bhoi, East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills and Garo Hills for the Senior & Master National Kickboxing Championship from August 1 to 5 at Ahmedabad.
