An organic waste converter composting machine, bailing machine and two dump trucks was inaugurated at the Jowai Municipal Board in its bid to keep the town clean.
Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla said these assets would inspire the board to make greater effort to keep Jowai town clean. He lauded the JMB for its service rendered despite the challenges and assured to look into problems related to salaries.
Shylla, who is also the chairman of the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA), informed that the state government has earmarked Rs 19 crore for construction of 11 in-situ nullah channels to prevent garbage flow to the Myntdu River.
He also thanked the Seiñ Raij Jowai and Dorbar Shnong Sabah Muswang for setting up of the Waste Recovery Center to tackle the menace of garbage sans a dumping ground.
