Although monsoon-like conditions have been experienced in Meghalaya for weeks now, the southwest monsoon officially arrived in the state today, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
The limit of the monsoon roughly passes through the border between Garo Hills and Khasi-Jaintia Hills. The onset of the monsoon this year is earlier than usual – typically the northern limit does not reach Meghalaya until the first week of June.
The state has been experiencing heavy rain for weeks now and the whole of Meghalaya will remain under a yellow alert tomorrow and the days to come.
