The Department of Environment and Traditional Ecosystems at Martin Luther Christian University, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Biodiversity Board, today organized a ‘Poster and Photography Competition’ to celebrate International Biodiversity Day 2022.
The themes for the competitions were ‘Change one habit that is negative to biodiversity’ and ‘Urban Biodiversity’.
The event was graced by the presence of TTC Marak, a retired IFS officer. Also in attendance were the MLCU Registrar Iwamon WJ Laloo, other university staff and students.
Marak gave a speech where he spoke on the sustainable development goals (SDGs), especially the relevance of SDGs 13 and 15 and where the North East states’ progress stood in relation to these goals.
He also mentioned the significance of spirituality and its linkages with the conservation of biodiversity while also stressing the importance of understanding “why we do what we do” in terms of environmental conservation and the role that we play in acting responsibly and productively for the sake of current and future generations.
The event concluded with a cash prize distribution to the winners of both the poster and photography competitions.
