Meghalaya tops the chart with the highest ratio of female workers in managerial positions among the North Eastern states, as per the annual bulletin of the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), 2019-20 of the National Statistical Office (NSO).
According to the survey 34.1 per cent of such positions in Meghalaya are filled by women. It was followed by Sikkim and Mizoram.
Andhra Pradesh and Punjab were also among the states with high representation of women in managerial positions with 32.3 per cent and 32.1 per cent, respectively, while Assam has the lowest ratio of 6.9 per cent.
Meghalaya also seconds to Sikkim (120.2 per cent) in the ratio of females to males among professional and technical workers with 101.5 percent.
At the all-India level, the ratio of female workers to total workers in managerial positions is at 18.7 per cent. It is at 21.4 per cent in rural areas and 16.4 per cent in urban areas.
The survey also revealed that north-eastern states fare well when it comes to the ratio of female workers working as legislators, senior officials and managers in states and Union territories. Manipur tops the list with 51.8 per cent followed by Meghalaya with 51.7 per cent, Sikkim at 50.4 per cent and Andhra Pradesh at 47.9 per cent.
