The guest of honour was retired diplomat Rudi V Warjri, who addressed the gathering with words of encouragement and inspiration. He began by congratulating the graduates on their significant achievement. Reflecting on the tranquil and invigorating setting of the university, he noted that it brought back memories of his student life. Warjri also emphasised the role of technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence, in transforming industries and societies. He urged the graduates to leverage technological advancements to excel in their respective fields, adapt to rapid changes and remain connected in an increasingly digital world.
The occasion was also graced by the presence of officials from the Ethiopian embassy and High Commission of Uganda.
In his inaugural address, Vice-Chancellor Malhar Pangrikar highlighted the university’s mission to provide holistic education rooted in sustainability, inclusivity and the rich cultural heritage of the North East. He emphasised that education at MIT University of Meghalaya extends beyond academics to instill values of responsibility towards the environment, communities and a shared future.
“At MIT University of Meghalaya, we nurture individuals who are not only intellectually sharp but also physically fit, mentally resilient and spiritually elevated,” he remarked.
Several graduates have secured placements in leading organisations such as Tata Motors, Cholamandalam and Hilton Embassy, while others gained valuable experience through internships with esteemed bodies like the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, Meghalaya Industrial Corporation and the Khadi Village Industries Corporation. Additionally, many students have ventured into entrepreneurship, reflecting the spirit of innovation and self-reliance instilled at MIT University.
Looking ahead, the VC shared ambitious plans for the university’s growth. These include the launch of new academic schools, such as the School of Applied Health Sciences, School of Science and Technology, School of Social Sciences and School of Liberal Studies. He also announced the establishment of the MIT Centre for Research and Innovation, which will focus on multidisciplinary research across fields like technology, management, design, humanities and health sciences.
