A man suffering from mental illness was allegedly assaulted by two persons at Hahim Bazar under Kamrup district in Assam.
A complaint on the assault was lodged with the Kamrup Superintendent of Police by the Achik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) today.
ACHIK said Teseng R Marak, a resident of Rangolpara, West Khasi Hills district, was assaulted on May 16 at around 3:30 pm by two persons identified as Hemontha Rabha and Opinash Rabha.
In the complaint the organisation said Marak is a mentally ill individual who is vulnerable and in need of care and protection. The assault inflicted upon him brutal and has caused grievous injuries to the victim.
“Such an act of violence against a mentally ill person is not only inhumane but a serious offense under the Bharatiya Sanhita Nyaya 2023 and relevant protective legislations for persons with disabilities,” President Macklarence M Sangma said.
The organisation has sought a fair and thorough investigation into the assault and to arrest the persons involved.
