Samborlang Rynjah who impressed Argentine custodian Emiliano Martinez with his goalkeeping skills after the Meghalaya lad’s videos went viral on social media was given a warm send off by the State government today.
Samborlang is also fondly called Junior Emiliano Martinez whom he idolises.
The young lad shot to fame after Argentina’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Junior Emiliano Martinez shared a video of the seven-year-old on his Instagram handle.
State Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri felicitated Samborlang at his office chamber at the State secretariat here today evening.
The seven year old goalkeeper signed his ten year contract with Minerva Football Academy, Punjab.
He will leave Shillong for Punjab tomorrow.
Speaking on the occasion, Warjri said that in the present generation it is necessary to use social media if anyone has skills so that they are recognised and such talent needs to be harnessed.
The minister also said that the journey of Samborlang will inspire other kids to work hard even as he added that this was a proud moment for the indigenous Khasi-Jaintia community.
