Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that Meghalaya’s health budget has doubled in the last five years.
“From Rs 800 crores we now spend nearly Rs 1600 crores on health. We are not just making policies and giving speeches, things are happening on the ground.”
He said the State is now among the fourth highest in terms of percentage spent on health as almost 8 per cent of our budget goes to the sector.
The Chief Minister also said that health in Meghalaya was in a poor state in the past and referred the highest incidences of maternal mortality rate in the country.
“Last Five Years saw us go into extreme measures, different uses of different technologies, programs, monitoring, and I am happy to tell you that in the last five years, there has been a reduction of 40 per cent in terms of the maternal mortality rate,” he said.
