Civil defence mock drills will be conducted on Wednesday in accordance with the instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The Directorate of Civil Defence & Home Guards has informed that the mock exercise on air raid precaution measures will begin from 4 pm onwards. The Air Raid siren will be sounded at 6:30 pm.
A ‘black out’ exercise (power-shutdown) of two minutes will commence immediately after the siren is sounded.
“The general public is requested not to panic as this is being done as part of a mock exercise for air raid,” the directorate said.
The Directorate has appealed to citizens to remain indoors and cover for safety on hearing the siren and during the black out from 6:30 pm to 6:32 pm to avoid accidents.
Citizens have also been requested to switch off their inverters during the blackout.
The Directorate said vehicles can move as usual and traffic will not be affected by the mock exercise.
The MHA on Monday asked several states to conduct mock drills on Wednesday in view of “new and complex threats” that have emerged amid rising tension with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack.
The mock drill will assess the effectiveness of air raid warning systems, operationalisation of Hotline or Radio Communication Links with the Indian Air Force, as well as it will test the functionality of control rooms.
The exercise to be conducted across the 244 categorized Civil Defence Districts of the country includes training of civilians and students on the civil defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of a hostile attack.
This exercise aims to assess and enhance the readiness of Civil Defence mechanisms across all States and Union Territories.
