South West Khasi Hills district disaster management authority today held a meeting with officials on the preventive measures and preparedness for the monsoons in the event of any disaster.
Deputy Commissioner, Caramai Kharkongor underlined the different roles and responsibilities played by different departments in the event of a disaster or a calamity and stressed on the need of being on close alert and keeping strict vigilance during the monsoon and post monsoon period especially in areas which are prone and vulnerable to hazards like landslides, fires, flood, etc and on how to tackle such situations in a prompt manner in order to safeguard the lives of people and property, to mitigate the loss as well as to explore remedial measures that needs to be taken and regular updating.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, W. Biam informed that as per FIRs received in the police station there were about 468 complaints filed in April-May.
