The State government has assured to make public the report of the independent inquiry commission instituted to probe into the alleged irregularities in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
“In the next Assembly, we will also lay it on the table of the House so that the recommendations made by the committee will be made public,” Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Power Prestone Tynsong told reporters today.
The three-member probe committee headed by retired judge Justice R N Mishra was constituted on July 29, 2021 after allegations from various quarters regarding mismanagement, siphoning of funds and various irregularities in the functioning of MeECL.
The allegations also led to the removal of then Power Minister James Sangma.
Tynsong informed that the power department has been asked to study the report and the recommendations.
“We will then have a meeting and accordingly we will implement the recommendations made by the committee. Hopefully by next month, I will be able to tell you exactly the position of this,” he said.
The committee had submitted its report to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in New Delhi on March 29, which was ahead of the deadline fixed on March 31.
The task of the committee was to inquire into and make recommendations concerning the procurement, aggregate technical and commercial losses, human resources management aspects of functioning of MeECL and its three subsidiaries – Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Ltd (MePGCL), Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (MePTCL) and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL).
The committee was also tasked to examine the alleged anomalies in the implementation of Saubhagya scheme, tender and procurement, and the recruitment procedures of MeECL and its subsidiaries among others.
