Shillong, Sep 30: A two-day medical check up camp began at the Composite Hospital BSF, Shillong today as part of the ongoing Swasthya Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan (SNSPA) campaign.
The camp was organized under the supervision of Dr. R. C. Bishariya, DIG (Medical)/Medical Superintendent, with the objective of promoting women’s health and conducting disease screening.
The camp placed special emphasis on cervical cancer screening through PAP smear tests, breast cancer screening, dental check-ups, and diagnosis of common health issues prevalent among women, including anemia, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. Necessary blood investigations were also carried out at the CH Laboratory.
The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation of women from different age groups. Specialist care was provided by doctors from CH Shillong, including Dr. Tanjeet Kaur (Specialist Gynaecologist), Dr. Bhupinder Singh (Medical Specialist), Dr. Sunil Kumar (Specialist Pediatrics), and Dr. Mritunjay Kumar (Commandant Dental Surgeon).
Participants were also sensitized on preventive healthcare, nutrition, and hygiene, empowering them to lead healthier lives. The initiative received wide appreciation from BSF wives, serving female staff, and wards of BSF personnel of Frontier BSF Meghalaya, CH BSF Shillong, SHQ Shillong, and Battalions 02, 04, 172, and 193 BSF.
Under the campaign, the District Health Society in South West Garo Hills organised a day-long health mela at Rongramgre village under Belbari PHC yesterday, and a blood donation camp at Ampati Civil Hospital premises on Tuesday.
The camp witnessed participation from the entire medical team, including specialists from Ampati Civil Hospital, who extended a range of healthcare services to the local population.
Interacting with members of the Village Health Committee (VHC), SHGs, and village elders, Deputy Commissioner, who is also the Chairperson of the District Health Society, Hema Nayak highlighted the importance of regular health checkups for all family members, including men. She also stressed the need for a nutritious breakfast for school-going children, emphasizing that a healthy start to the day boosts immunity and supports both brain and physical development.
A wide range of specialist medical services were provided during the camp, including ENT, General Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Eye and Dental Care, as well as screenings for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Tuberculosis (TB) through X-rays, and other essential diagnostics.
