The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government has been the one that has resolved or at least is close to resolving many issues that are important to the people of the state, Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) president KP Pangniang has told Highland Post.
The HSPDP is a minor partner in the MDA coalition.
“Just like the ILP (Inner Line Permit), inclusion of the Khasi language (in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution), the boundary (dispute with Assam) that has always been in the HSPDP manifesto, but we cannot deny the fact that it was only under the MDA which comprises of four-five political flags, both regional and national parties, that issues of the regional parties also saw the light of the day,” he told HP recently.
Pangniang said that in the MDA matters that are priorities for regional parties have been addressed in stark contrast to previous governments where they just hung fire.
He maintained that even though the issues still need to be pursued and followed up with the government of India, the state government has shown that it has passed these bills and resolutions that are of utmost importance for the state.
“Issues like the boundary settlement that never materialised for several decades also saw the light of the day under the MDA, which I believe is also a good performance,” the HSPDP president added.
