The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government has done practically nothing to sort out the traffic snarls that continually plague Shillong, state Congress Party working president Ampareen Lyngdoh has said.
Expressing shock that in the past few days all main link roads were also closed and made one way on account of the pujas, she asked, “Why were the main link roads made one way? Why was that experiment done that resulted in everything so chaotic and unorganized?”
“We have had festive seasons again and again down the years but this time the traffic was not manned or managed correctly. Everything was so chaotic and unorganized,” she added.
Stating that she saw the traffic personnel looking helplessly at the mess that occurred before them, she further expressed concern on the commuters from different villages who continue to take a minimum of three-four hours from Upper Shillong to Shillong proper.
She said that the opposition has kept highlighting all these issues but the government is ignoring all the suggestions and seems not at all interested to listen to issues affecting the common man.
