The term Governance comes from the Greek word ‘Kubernaein’ which even Pluto, a well renowned Greek scholar defined it as a ‘Way to Steer’. The current Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government with its allies of national and regional parties has missed one thing and that is ensuring uniformity in governance at all levels.
The misuse of authority and power by many, especially those aligned to the parties in the MDA government is a sad reflection of the situation which has led to a decline in major sectors like education, employment generation, health infrastructure, power generation etc without any realistic goals and aspirations.
Meghalaya till today doesn’t have a reliable and worthy policy that can propel various departments to excel because we don’t have the kind of specialists in most of them and which is why many are just single silos in their own way at looking at things. This is where we would require a new strategy of governance to redefine where we would stand 50 years from now ahead and if we have visionary leadership then things will definitely be different for the future.
