Khliehriat, Nov 21: A 47-year-old man was stabbed to death by a sexagenarian during a drinking session inside a shed where he was staying, at Thangskoo village, East Jaintia Hills.
The accused, Abharam Sten (60), fled the scene after the attack on November 18, leaving the victim, Bilaius Diengngan to die.
According to police, Sten was arrested the next day after preliminary investigation confirmed that he and the victim had been drinking alcohol together inside the shed, which led to an argument and physical altercation. It is alleged that during the fight, Sten assaulted Diengngan with a knife, causing serious injuries that resulted in his death on the spot, police said.
Initially police could not confirm the identity of the victim, who was known by a nickname, until a call was made to a contact number found in a notebook inside the shed.
The victim was a resident of Mawkyllon, Riangdo in West Khasi Hills. His body was handed over to the family after the post mortem examination at Khliehriat Civil Hospital.
