Shillong, Feb 9: A resident of Shillong was fleeced of Rs 48.35 lakh by a scamster over the phone.
According to police, the victim received a phone call from someone claiming to be one Surbi Alwallia, who asked him to pay Rs 48,35,206.50 against a Bharti Axa life insurance policy due to mis-selling and non-deposit of the premium during the Covid-19 pandemic period.
The victim was told that the amount would then be refunded after 45 days.
Believing all this, the victim transferred the money but it was never refunded and he therefore filed a complaint with police in this regard.
